Renovation of key taxiway intersection to start on 2 March 2026

Works

From 2 March to 19 September 2026, Brussels Airport will carry out major renovation works at a key taxiway intersection leading to the primary runway 07L/25R. These works are essential to ensure the continued safety and reliability of air traffic operations. The renovation is not expected to have an impact on the PRS ( Preferential Runway System ).

Phased works to minimise operational impact

Between March and mid-September 2026, the taxiways B1, B3, E6, E7, INN 5/6 and OUT 6/7, forming a key junction in the airport’s taxiway network, will be partly excavated and rebuilt. The renovation will include the complete renewal of the pavement structure down to the foundation layers, with the application of new asphalt, upgraded lighting and improvements to the sewerage system for better drainage.

Due to the high operational use of this intersection, the works will be executed in phases to maintain operational availability and minimise the impact on airside and runway operations. This phased approach extends the overall duration of the works. Preparatory works will begin on 16 February to facilitate access to the construction area.

As a rule, renovation works will take place Monday to Friday, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. During particularly crucial phases, works may be carried out six or seven days a week, including at night, to minimise operational impact during the day. Deviations from the standard schedule will only occur when necessary. Favourable weather conditions are also essential to keeping the works on schedule.

No impact on Preferential Runway System expected

The works have been prepared in close coordination with all relevant stakeholders and are planned in such a way that no impact on the PRS (Preferential Runway System) is expected. Nevertheless, exceptional or unforeseen operational circumstances cannot be entirely ruled out.

The selection of runways in use is made by the air traffic services provider skeyes based on runway and taxiway availability, air traffic volume and weather conditions. The safety of air navigation remains the top priority at all times.

Runway use, wind conditions, any planned works and their potential impact on the runways that are used and the PRS are always announced on this website.
