Renovation of runway 07R/25L scheduled from 12 July to 27 August
Brussels Airport will carry out major renovation works on runway 07R/25L from 12 July to 27 August 2025 to ensure safe and reliable air traffic operations. The renovation will include fresh asphalt, new runway lights and improvements to the sewerage system for better drainage.
To complete these works safely and efficiently, runway 07R/25L will be fully closed to air traffic for the entire duration. As this runway intersects with runway 01/19, both runways will be unavailable from 2 August to 12 August, during which time only runway 07L/25R will be in use. This will temporarily affect runway use and flight paths in the surrounding area of the airport.
As a rule, renovation works will take place from Monday to Saturday, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Exceptions to this schedule may be made if necessary to prevent delays in the construction progress and prolongation of the overall work duration. From August 2 to August 12, construction will proceed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including during the night. This is essential to keep the closure of both runways as brief as possible to ensure that airport operations can continue as smoothly as possible.
Runway use and air traffic procedures during the works
The works are scheduled in such a way as to minimise the impact on the PRS as much as possible. However, given the impact on runway availability, it will not always be possible to apply the PRS.
The selection of runways in use is made by the air traffic services provider skeyes based on runway and taxiway availability, air traffic volume and weather conditions. The safety of air navigation remains the top priority at all times.
The runway configurations used during the works will be as follows, provided weather conditions:
-
During peak arrivals: landings on runway 19 and take-offs from runway 25R.
-
During non-peak arrivals: landings on runway 25R; take-offs from runways 25R and 19.
There are two periods during the works where alternative runway configurations are in place:
-
From 16 July to 23 July: closure of runway 25L/07R and taxiways around runway 19. Landings on runway 25R; take-offs from runways 25R and 19.
- From 2 August to 12 August: closure of runway 25L/07R and runway 19/01. Landings and take-offs will take place exclusively on runway 25R.
If weather conditions prevent the use of these configurations, air traffic services provider skeyes will decide to use alternative runway configurations.
Flight procedure during the works
Runway 07L is not equipped with precision approach systems, a high-tech guide that helps pilots land an aircraft safely and accurately, especially when visibility is poor. For the duration of the works, a RNP (Required Navigation Performance) satellite-based approach procedure will be implemented on this runway, in accordance with European requirements and safety standards.
Other flight procedures will remain unchanged.
Runway use, wind conditions, any planned works and their potential impact on the runways that are used are always announced on this website.
