Replacement of the AFI beacon from 7 March to 3 May 2019

Works

In the framework of the modernisation programme of the Belgian air navigation beacon network, skeyes will shortly be replacing the AFI navigation beacon, located in the community of Affligem, some 20 kilometres west of Brussels Airport.

The replacement of the AFI beacon will be carried out between 7 March  and 3 May 2019. The beacon will not be available for air navigation during this period. AFI is also a geographical reference and will remain available as a waypoint for the duration of the works.

The AFI beacon is used for navigation on airways and for a limited number of take-offs from Brussels Airport. In order to remedy that unavailability, the aircraft concerned will be guided by air traffic control. Deviations from take-off procedures are possible for a limited number of flights, with very limited impact.

The unavailability of the AFI beacon will not change the applicable rules for runway section.
